It is now September 5th and no digging has commenced. I've been told that the bank is still working it's way through whatever paperwork it is they are perusing, but it is taking them forEVER. We did actually talk to an appraiser last week, which is one of the last steps before the paperwork goes to someone else to look at for a few days followed by someone else who will look at it for a few days... Obviously I'm not real clear on the sequence of events but Jeff is optimistic that we may be able to start digging a foundation as soon as September 12th. Although Jeff has been optimistic about this kind of thing before.
On a positive note, the special arborist has done his thing and the trees are ready for the foundation work. There is even a regulation 6' metal fence around the trees so nobody will dare tread on their root systems. As if. We weren't able to use the fir tree to count towards our 30" of required tree (required by the city), but the plan does call for protective measures of the fir, which we have done. When the arborist did the air spade to see where roots needed to be cut, apparently the fir tree had few to none, so hopefully we won't have a huge tree falling on our new house anytime soon. We will have to plant a few trees to meet the city requirements but we were planning on doing that anyhow, so for now tree plan is a go.
There really is nothing else to be done before the foundation starts. Waiting is getting old. Even shopping for house stuff is getting old, since it seems like we won't have a house to put it in. I know the construction process can be fraught with delays, but this is starting to seem a little ridiculous.
